The winter season is here, and it is time to wax our skis and snowboards and plan for our snow day adventures in some of the best southern California ski resorts! When we look forward to snow adventures and planning our trip, it is easy to forget to schedule a check-up on our vehicle to make sure we make it there and back again safely. Bear Mountain
Bear Mountain is an excellent place to learn how to ski or snowboard. With 27 fantastic trails on the slope and only 2 hours from Los Angeles, this snow adventure with an elevation drop of 1,700 feet and 8,800-foot peaks, you are sure to get some good runs no matter your skill level.
Snow Summit
With over 18 miles of skiing, Snow Summit is an idea for experienced skiers looking to get long stretches of powder under their sticks. The longest run in Snow summer is one ¼ mile long and has an elevation drop of 1,000 feet. Snow Summit is designed for skiers; however, Snowboarders and tubers also have a good time on the slopes.
Snow Valley
With 28 runs, Snow Valley is a smile maker for all levels of snow lovers, from beginners to expert-level. The longest ski run is about a mile long, and the peak is about 7,900 feet high, with 12 ski lifts to take you where you want to go; from December through April, you are sure to have the time of your lives in the snow only two hours east of LA.
Pinos
Located in Los Padres National Forest near Ventura, Mt. Pinos is excellent for both beginners and expert skiers and even offers back-country experiences. If you love skiing, try Condor Summit Road Slope for challenging and rugged terrain. There are many slopes to choose from, no matter your skill level, and it welcomes Snowboarders, cross-country skiers, snowshoers, and inter-tubes alike and is only about 2 hours from LA.
Baldy
Only 20 miles from Los Angeles, Mt. Baldy is nearby and has over $4,000 acres of trails to explore. No matter your skill level, the four lifts at the top of the trails will give you a smile as you head down the slopes, no matter if you are on a snowboard, skis, or inter-tubers. The trails at Mt. Baldy are waiting for you!
Mountain High
Angeles National Forest hosts Mountain High Ski Resort, which offers both natural snow and created show for the slopes. There are challenging slopes for every skill level at Mountain High. This is one ski destination you won’t have trouble driving to, as you can get there without crossing any treacherous mountain passes.
Waterman
Mt. Waterman’s season usually begins in January and only hosts natural snow. Mt. Waterman’s 28 slopes host all skill levels, from beginners to advanced, with a host of trails to choose from. Mt. Waterman is only a day resort, so plan accordingly and be sure to check out the snowshoe trails while you are there!
When we think of southern California, we mostly think of sunshine and warmth; however, with ski slopes only about 2 hours away, you can always hop into your car and head for the snow for a day or a long weekend.
